A great way to do this is with a suggestion box. These handy devices can actually make a huge difference in how well your business does in terms of customer service.

Many restaurants and hotels offer feedback cards to their patrons. In the case of a restaurant they are typically located right on the table. The customer can use the card to note any areas where they feel service are lacking and could do with improvement. It may be in the time they spent waiting for their meal to arrive, or perhaps the server had a bit of an attitude. The feedback card is then dropped in a box for suggestions on the way out of the establishment. Management looks them over and uses them to weigh where they may be able to make improvements.

The concept is virtually the same in a hotel. In this case the cards are typically found in the room and the visitor can make comments on many facets of their stay including the reception and cleaning staff. If the hotel offers room service there will often be an area on the card dedicated to food quality and temperature.

Each individual establishment will have a different approach to gaining customer feedback in this way. The traditional old suggestion box was wooden with a small slot in the top for the cards. It sat in clear view, in an area where the customer usually paid. In a restaurant that was by the cash register near the door, and in a hotel, the suggestion box would be found at the front desk.

Today’s boxes are usually much different looking. A popular design for all types of businesses is a clear box with a handle. This simply looks a bit better and can blend into the décor of any space. Customers may actually not notice a clear suggestion box at first glance so they need to keep an eye open for it if they do want to share their thoughts.

If a company really wants to go high tech in the area of customer comments they can do that. Having your customer take an online satisfaction survey is a great way to get them to your website. Printing the website address on their receipt and then offering an incentive to get them to visit the site and leave their thoughts often means repeat business.

Keeping customers happy is the cornerstone of any successful service oriented business. Gather their thoughts by using a suggestion box and do what you can to improve their experience so they remain faithful.

There are so many things that are available to help us stay in touch with people. These same techno advancements are also available for use with business, especially if you are starting a home based business on a shoe string budget. This is what I did. I got involved in a home base business without any capital or knowledge of business. With the help of my business partner I learned about many things that I could use free from the internet to learn my business.

Once I learned about the products that the company I became a dealer for had I began doing some retailing. Once I had learned the retailing aspect of the business I was ready to begin presenting the business opportunity to others. I found out about purchasing leads through different companies. Most of the leads came with a short survey a first and alternate telephone number and the best time to call. Unfortunately the first set of leads I bought did not include the time zones. I mentioned this to my business mentor. She told me that I could find out addresses by using the reverse telephone directory on line. I did not know that there was such a thing. She gave me the address for the site for the reverse telephone directory. Once you get to these white pages you have the choice of entering a name and getting a number or you can enter the number and get the name and address. Because this is the opposite of how we traditionally look for telephone numbers it is called the reverse telephone directory. If the number was for a cell phone the geographical location was still given. On the reverse telephone directory the time zone is given and the current local time is displayed. This is really helpful considering some time zones have day light savings time and others do not. Also when you are making several calls it is hard to keep the different time zones straight.

Since I have learned about the reverse telephone directory I have also used it in other areas of my life besides business. If you are looking at classified ads and want to know who owns the item you can enter the phone number and get the name and address of the person. This is a great and handy tool; unfortunately it only has the listings for land lines. Mobile phones are just that mobile so the address is more difficult to track. Law enforcement and the various mobile phone companies have access to the billing information on mobile phones, but so far this information is not available to the general public.
